MELIDEN FC have announced that they will no longer be playing in Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two next season.

After a difficult campaign for the Miners, the fourth-tier side confirmed they have formally applied to drop down to the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League system to “ensure the stable future of the club for years to come”.

The decision comes due to the upcoming reorganisation of the Football Association of Wales pyramid, with financial implications also playing a leading role in their impending move.

A club statement, said: “With the upcoming reorganisation of the leagues in mind, along with financial implications and travel requirements from being in the Welsh Alliance Division Two, the club have decided to apply to compete in the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League for the season 2019/20.

“Our new committee will be looking for a fresh start to ensure the stable future of the club for years to come.

“We look forward to announcing our pre-season plans soon, as well as projects to move the club forward.”

Meliden currently sit in 12th position after winning just six of their 24 league games to date, with manager Peter Evans recently stepping down following a brief period at the helm.

He took over from long-serving boss Gareth Jones, who resigned in October but remains part of the club’s committee.
