BANGOR City FC will play host to a major boxing event later this year.

The club’s EuroGold Stadium will host an evening of championship boxing on a date to be confirmed in due course, which is the first time that a massive boxing event has been held in the city since 1979.

The show, which will be billed ‘Mayhem on the Menai’, will be screened exclusively live on a British free-to-air sports channel and be promoted by VSM Europe in conjunction with a top promoter.

Last time a big card took place in the region saw Dave Davies stop Clifton Wallace on a bill promoted by Liverpool’s Charles Atkinson – and it was the first ever championship boxing to be hosted in North Wales.

Details regarding the show, including the identity of the broadcaster, fighters on the show, ticket information and an official date, will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Citizens’ supporters also made a generous donation to Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side Llanrwst United following extensive damage at their Gwydir Park base due to flooding, with the fan base contributing a total of £111 towards the repairs.
