ANOTHER female squad have been confirmed for this summer’s Inter-Games football tournament on Anglesey.

The Ynys Mon 2019 Organising Committee announced that Gibraltar’s Women’s Football side have been accepted as entrants into this summer’s tournament which will be hosted on Anglesey.

Gibraltar, a nation registered with FIFA, join Ynys Mon, Isle of Man, Jersey, Western Isles and Hitra in the Women’s competition for this summer’s tournament.

A draw will now take place in due course to separate the six teams into two groups of three, with the winner and runner-up of each group progressing to the semi-finals and the bottom two teams playing a placing game. Fixtures will be confirmed as soon as possible.

Gareth Parry, Ynys Mon 2019 Project Manager, said: “We're delighted to be able to accept Gibraltar into this summer's Inter Games women's tournament.

“To have 16 men's and women's teams from all over the world competing on the island in June is fantastic and the addition of a women's team from Gibraltar, who are of course a nation registered with FIFA, is a huge boost to an already impressive line-up of competitors and sure to help raise the profile of the women's game.

“Whilst the men’s tournament format has long since been decided, the addition of Gibraltar to the women’s competition means that a draw needs to take place to split the six teams into two groups, and this will be conducted at once with the fixtures confirmed soon afterwards.

“Preparations for the tournament are progressing very well and we’re confident we can put on a fantastic show on the island this summer.”

Laura McGinn, Gibraltar FA Women’s Manager, added: “We’re really excited to be taking part in the Ynys Môns Inter-Island games. It will be a great opportunity for the development of our team and gives all our players something to aspire to this summer.”
