BANGOR City are set to lose one of their key men ahead of their crunch JD Welsh Cup clash with Caernarfon Town.

The Chronicle understands that Alex Darlington is poised to join Mosta as early as this Wednesday after both clubs agreed a fee for the player and personal terms were agreed.

It is believed the talented forward will sign an 18-month deal worth around £1,500 a week, and Darlington will once again link-up with former Citizens’ director of football Stephen Vaughan Jnr, who is currently on the coaching staff at the BOV Premier League Malta outfit.

Darlington has been at the top of his game for the Citizens so far this term, turning in a series of fine displays on his way to the joint-top of the Huws Gray Alliance goalscoring charts with 14 alongside Conwy Borough hitman Corrig McGonigle.

The news will come as a significant blow to the Citizens’ faithful, with the club still in contention for the second tier title and are about to embark on one of their biggest games in recent memory against the Canaries.

The Maltese side were also believed to be targeting Anthony Stephens in a double swoop from the VSM Stadium, although the versatile player has reportedly turned down the chance to join the club.
