A BANGOR Rugby Club youth product helped a high-profile national student development side secure a notable success.

Tomos Davies was named in the Welsh Academicals squad that took on Llandovery College on Wednesday, January 9, and the talented forward produced a fine performance as the Accies’ emerged victorious by a narrow margin of 38-31.

The 17-year-old is part of the RGC Rugby Academy which is run in partnership the Welsh Rugby Union based at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, and he has become a prominent member of the Gogs’ youth set-up at U16 and U18 level.

He enjoyed a fantastic campaign with the school’s senior side thanks to a series of standout displays, in addition to some eye-catching performances in a Bangor shirt.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “It was great to see Tomos’ hard work paying off with a deserved selection to the Welsh Academicals squad, and he acquitted himself superbly throughout the fixture.

“He is another shining example of our sports scholarship programme here at Rydal Penrhos, which has produced a huge number of athletes that are performing at a national and international level across a multitude of different areas.

“This is a testament to the dedication shown by our coaching and teaching staff, and the way each pupil under the initiative really buys into our product in order to thrive.”
