BODEDERN Athletic remain top of Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One heading into the new year thanks to a 2-1 home win over Mynydd Llandegai.

The newly promoted side continue to make fantastic strides in their first third tier season under Ricky Williams, and they opened the scoring after 40 minutes when Shaun Jenkins finished well after a neat passage of play.

After the break saw the away side get back on level terms when Gavin Owen turned in a chance after a fine spell of possession, but the title hopefuls gained the critical advantage 12 minutes from time courtesy of a strike from Jack Griffiths.

Athletic now enjoy a two-point advantage over Llangefni Town, who were held to a goalless draw at Greenfield to see them lose ground in the race for the championship.

Chris Roberts’ side missed a host of chances throughout and also had Daniel Thomas dismissed for a second bookable offence, but they do have two games in hand on the current pacesetters thanks to their fantastic cup exploits so far this term.

Llanrug United also remain in the hunt after goals from Aaron Hughes and Daniel Williams gave them a narrow 2-1 triumph at St Asaph City, with Nantlle Vale seven points adrift after a Shaun Pollard effort enabled them to achieve a 1-0 home win over Barmouth and Dyffryn United.

Llanberis emerged from their tie at Llandyrnog United with a share of the spoils, with a second half strike from David Jones cancelling out Marion Avram’s opener in a 1-1 stalemate.
