LLANGEFNI were unable to recover from a poor start as they fell to a 51-37 home defeat at the hands of WRU National League Division One North title hopefuls Pwllheli.

The visitors wasted no time in making an impact with a fine passing move that saw Carwyn ap Myrddin go over in the corner, and the former RGC star was on hand to extend their lead with another blistering run that saw him touch down under the posts.

A surging drive from the Pwll pack brought with it another score from Deio Brunelli cross the white wash that was converted by ap Myrddin, and another sensational attack saw Robin Hughes go over shortly after Cefni got on the board through a Rhys Hughes penalty.

The hosts finally started to impose themselves on proceedings and their first try arrived courtesy of Greg Horsman after a neat link-up with Tom Owen. Hughes added the extras.

This was swiftly followed by another home score that arrived when Horsman fed speedy back Gethin Andrews for a touch down that was converted by Hughes, but this joy did not last long as Pwll restored their cushion when hooker Kevin Morris went over.

Aled Hughes kept Cefni in the contest with a score just before the break, but the visitors came out flying after the interval and Gareth Williams dotted over for another try shortly following the restart.

Both sides traded scores for the majority of the half, and despite a spirited effort from the home side it was not enough to see them peg back the in-form former champions.

Bro Ffestiniog were unable to cause a major stir at the summit as they were downed 20-7 at home by league leaders Llandudno, with Caernarfon falling to a narrow 22-18 reverse at Ruthin.

Division Three North side Menai Bridge continued their run of positive results with a convincing 42-19 home success over Mold Seconds, and Holyhead also got back to winning ways with an 18-14 triumph over Denbigh Seconds.
