LLANGEFNI Town booked their place in the FAW Trophy last 16 with a narrow 1-0 home victory over Brymbo.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders have enjoyed a phenomenal season so far under manager Chris Roberts, and this was their 16th consecutive triumph in all competitions and they are now 17 unbeaten ahead of their pivotal home clash with title rivals Llanrug United on Wednesday.

Roberts, said: “I think it was a game of two halves to be honest, we dominated the first half and could have gone in at half time two or three up if we would have taken our chances.

“We saw a lot of possession in the first half and moved the ball well, they didn’t really cause us any problems at the back with only a free kick and a corner kick really asking us any questions.

“The second half was the opposite, I thought where Brymbo had the better chances and saw a lot of possession, I feel we could have done more in terms of keeping the ball but on the whole a great win to get us in the hat for the next round and continue our unbeaten start to 17 games.

“I thought Brymbo were by far the best side we have faced this season and wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”

The home side started well and missed a good opportunity early on when Marvin Pritchard failed to convert, but they did break the deadlock soon after when Iwan Jones headed home at the far post following a fine delivery from Cai Powell-Roberts.

Cefni had a great chance to extend their lead on the hour, but Matthew Jones failed to connect with a cross, and although they were pegged back considerably in the closing stages the Town rearguard held firm for yet another significant victory.
