GWALCHMAI edged closer to Gwynedd League leaders Menai Bridge Tigers thanks to a comfortable 5-1 win at Bontnewydd.

The title hopefuls cut the gap to just one point having played a game more than the unbeaten side, and they opened the scoring on 49 minutes after a cagey first period when Mark Griffiths found the net.

This was met by a swift response from the home side which arrived on 55 minutes through Ian Pleming, but Griffiths was on hand to restore their advantage with his second of the afternoon on the hour mark.

Things got even better for the visitors soon after when Gwion Thomas added a third on 75 minutes, and they rubbed salt in the hosts’ wounds with two more striker late on through Paul Rowlands and John Jones.

Llangoed continued their excellent recent run of results with an eye-catching 4-0 triumph at Bro Goronwy.

A brace from Carwyn Williams did the majority of the damage, with Wayne Thomas and Llion Roberts also on target for third placed side against last season’s runners-up.

Llanystumdwy picked up a vital win in their battle to move away from the basement after sealing a 3-1 home triumph over Mynydd Tigers.

A stunning first half display saw them go into the break with a three-goal cushion after a two-goal salvo from Brad Williams and a solitary Kyle Williams effort, and despite Kyle Hartlepp hitting a consolation in second half stoppage time it did little to reflect the overall outcome of the contest.
