MELIDEN began life under a new regime with a 4-0 reverse at Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two rivals Llannefydd.

The club announced that long-serving player Peter Evans has taken over on a permanent basis, and he will be tasked with turning around the fortunes of the 10th placed side as the campaign progresses.

Chairman Steven Boyle, said: “Peter has been at the club many years and is no stranger to management as he was our manager for the reserve team a few seasons back.

“We, as a club, would like to wish him all the best for the rest of the season.

“We would like to thank Ollie Jones and Paul Welburn for managing the team over the last few weeks since the departure of Gaz Jones.

“Due to work commitments they have been unable to give the time needed to manage the team successfully. They are both committed to the club and will be back on the field playing instead of managing.”

Things got off to a poor start for the visitors and they fell behind on 11 minutes when Tomos Jones found the net, and a Guto Owen brace either side of half-time gave them a virtually unassailable mountain to climb for the remainder of the clash.

Their misery was confirmed on 83 minutes when a slick passing move resulted in Nedw Clwyd hitting the target to round off the scoring, and the new boss will be hoping for more success this Saturday when they host league leaders Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs.
