GLANTREATH have sent shockwaves through the Gwynedd League with the signing of Jamie Roberts from Holyhead Hotspur.

The talented forward has opted to drop down from the second tier to join Warren Gibbs’ side, who reformed last summer after a season away from competitive action of refusing promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance after a memorable title winning Welsh Alliance Division One campaign.

Roberts makes a return to Traeth following successful spells at Caernarfon Town and Conwy Borough prior to his move to the New Stadium in the summer, and the move signals a significant statement from Gibbs’ side as they look to climb through the Welsh pyramid system once again.

A club spokesman, said: “The signing of Jamie is a statement of intent by the club who are looking to mount a serious title challenge this year and gain promotion back into the Welsh Alliance.

“The management are thrilled to have a player of Jamie’s calibre at the club as they continue to look to move the club forward.

“They believe Jamie will be a huge asset for the during the remainder of the season and will make a huge contribution.

“We would like to thank Holyhead Hotspur for their cooperation during the transfer.”

Glantraeth currently sit in third spot in the standing, winning five of their opening eight games to leave them seven points behind early pacesetters Menai Bridge Tigers.
