PRESTATYN Sports bowed out of the FAW Trophy at the third-round stage after a 3-0 loss at Rhydymwyn.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two side missed a host of chances in the opening exchanges during a hugely positive start, but they found the home custodian in superb form thanks to a series of fine stops to keep the scores level.

Sports were made to pay for their lack of conviction in front of goal when Harry Massey opened the scoring with a neat finish, before a blockbuster just before the break from Nathan Mendoza double the hosts’ advantage.

Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves switched the formation at the break in the hope of getting themselves back into the tie, but their frustrations in front of goal continued throughout the second period and they had strong claims for a penalty waved off when Darren Cassidy was impeded in the box.

The home side weathered the storm and booked their place in the hat late on when a speedy counter-attack presented a chance to Kyle Harte, who made no mistake to round off the scoring.

A club spokesman, said: “Credit to our opponents they were well organised, and defended very well, took their chances and have to say the facilities and the pitch are brilliant there.”

St Asaph City were also on the wrong end of a cup exit on their travels as they were downed 4-1 at Plas Madoc.

The in-form Saints were left rueing defensive errors which resulted in Shaun Valentine, Nicky Williams-Jordan and Jamie Williams finding the net, with Paul Fleming continuing his excellent exploits in front of goal with the visitors’ consolation.
