MENAI Bridge Tigers progressed to the second round of the Bob Owen Memorial Shield with a 5-2 home win over Bontnewydd.

Despite the eventual result is was the visitors that drew first blood through Aled Steele after ten minutes, but the hosts responded well to the setback and levelled matters on 19 courtesy of a Dean Redmond finish.

Llanystumdwy booked their place in the Gwynedd League third round with a 5-1 rout at Waunfawr thanks to goals from Rob Griffith, Karon Hughes, Jac Jones, Darren Parry and Mark Godfrey, and Ben Hulse struck twice in extra time for Llangoed in their 4-2 first round success over Mynydd Tigers.

Nefyn United were also in first round action at high-flying Gwalchmai, with Dylan Sion Jones, an own goal, Steve Jones, Llion Jones and Zac Allinson on target in their resounding 5-0 victory on their travels.

In the only Gwynedd League fixture of the day, Glantraeth continued their recent run of good results with a 2-2 home draw with Talysarn Celts.

Nick Clarke and Bryn Roberts looked to have sealed all three points for Warren Gibbs’ side, but a two-goal salvo from Jac Jones ensured both sides had something to show for their efforts.
