A FORMER RGC Academy star has been reflecting on his meteoric rise to prominence with English Premiership side Exeter Chiefs.

Sean Lonsdale, who came through the Gogs’ youth system before catching the attention of English clubs, has made a significant impact in the senior set-up so far this season and made another valuable contribution for the in-form side during their recent 28-11 victory over Worcester Warriors at Sandy Park.

The 21-year-old, said: “When I first came here, [playing in the Premiership] seemed so far away, but now it really is a dream come true.

“When I first arrived, I was a little shocked at the standard of play, but I acclimatised to it and now I feel much more comfortable here.

“It’s all been incredible, playing alongside the likes of Don Armand and Matt Kvesic, it really has been amazing.”

The former Rydal Penrhos School pupil, who last turned out for Mark Jones’ men in their landmark clash against Wales at Stadiwm Zip World, paid tribute to the 9,700-strong crowd which played a part in the Chiefs' extended their impressive start to the campaign.

Lonsdale has made three Premiership outings so far this season, coming off the bench to feature against Wasps earlier this month, before being thrust into the fire from the outset against Sale Sharks in round three.

“The crowd were amazing. There was definitely plenty of motivation going into the game, especially given the result here last season,” he added.

“You’re given a lot of chances to play, whether it’s in the A League or the Anglo-Welsh.

“The coaches aren’t afraid to put you in the team as long as you’re performing and proving yourself.”
