CAERNARFON Town will welcome one of the region’s greatest ever footballers for their upcoming JD Welsh Premier League contest with Llanelli Town on Saturday (2.30pm).

Wyn Davies, who is regarded as the town’s most celebrated footballer of the modern era, has been confirmed as the special guest at The Oval and a special presentation marking his return to the club has also been arranged by officials at 2.10pm.

Davies represented a host of prestigious clubs during his glittering career in the 1970’s and 1980’s, and is one of the few to represent both Manchester United and Manchester City.

He also turned out for Newcastle United, where he earned the nickname ‘Mighty Wyn’ from the Toon Army, and also boasts Bolton Wanderers among his former sides.

The striker made almost 600 professional appearances, scoring 150 goals. Davies also enjoyed international success and was capped 37 times by Wales, scoring six times.

A club spokesman, said: “Caernarfon Town Football Club is extremely proud that Wyn played for us before joining the professional ranks.

“Having been signed by manager Arthur Lynn in 1958, Wyn made his Caernarfon debut on June 26 of the same year and, after an impressive start to the 1959/60, Wrexham won the race between a number of high-profile clubs to sign him.”

Sean Eardley’s men will be aiming to get back to winning ways in front of their special guest following their home defeat to Barry Town United last weekend, and this represents a significant opportunity for the Canaries to pick up another three points against a Town side that have struggled to adjust to life in the top flight and sit bottom of the early standings.

There will also be a special ceremony and presentation in honour of Wyn at his birthplace in Ffordd Maes Barcer, which is set to begin at 12pm.
