NANTLLE Vale moved off the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One summit after being held to a 1-1 draw at Llandyrnog United.

The unlikely title chasers had to settle for a share of the spoils after a spirited effort from an under-strength United side, who took the lead just before the break courtesy of a thunderbolt from player-manager Ryan Harden after 42 minutes.

After the interval saw the visitors pile on the pressure and they finally levelled matters on 83 minutes when Aaron Griffiths finished well to extend their unbeaten run to seven.

There was no such luck for Llanrug United, who were on the wrong end of a narrow 2-1 reverse at newly promoted Prestatyn Sports.

Despite the eventual result it was the away side who dominated the opening exchanges, and they went ahead after 34 minutes when a deflected Aaron Hughes effort found its way into the net.

This provoked a strong response from the hosts, who dusted themselves off and went into the break all square when skipper Shane Middleman produced a superb header from a Sam Duffy delivery on 43 minutes.

After the interval saw the visitors go close on a number of occasions, but they were unable to converted any of the opportunities that came their way and were made to pay on 75 minutes when new signing Ben Cawley headed home a Duffy corner after 75 minutes to seal the points.

Bodedern Athletic’s good run came to an end with a 1-0 home defeat to Llandudno Albion, with Richard Jones, Tom Smith and Jack Jones on target for Penrhyndeudraeth in their 3-1 victory over St Asaph City.
