MENAI Bridge extended their advantage at the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division summit thanks to a five-wicket win at Pwllheli.

It proved to be another memorable week for Dion Holden’s side, and they have opened up a 25-point gap after title rivals St Asaph and Llandudno were both defeated during a busy weekend of action.

The visitors got off to a fantastic start in the field when Gethin Roberts trapped opener Craig Edwards lbw for a duck, with Patrick Glover disposing of the dangerous Swapnil Kate for one.

A spell of resistance in the middle came from Morgan Murray-Williams and Chris Moore, who contributed 36 and 62 respectively before they were ousted by Gerallt Roberts during a critical stage of the innings.

Another notable contribution came from captain Michael Hughes, who was clean bowled by Glover after making 32 from 28 deliveries, while Holden took out Sean and Owen Reilly for eight and two respectively on his way to figures of 2-40.

Gerallt Roberts claimed two more victims in the form of Syed Aslam (11) and Guto Roberts (7) to take his final tally to 4-55 as the hosts set a target of 181-9 from their 50 overs at the crease.

Despite losing Luke Jones (11), Jack Gower (23) and Arwel Thomas (26) during the opening exchanges, a standout knock of 65 from Holden got them over the line with minimal fuss, which he accomplished off just 71 balls.

He was aided at the other end by Gethin Long, who ended the day unbeaten on 43 as they reached their required target after 39 overs, and they travel to Northop on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten start to the campaign.
