AN impressive bowling performance was the catalyst behind Dolgellau’s five-wicket home success over Bersham.

The North Wales Cricket League Division One promotion hopes made it two games unbeaten to start the season, leaving them in second spot and seven points behind Bethesda in the early stages.

Mark Edmondson got the hosts off to a flyer in the field with the wickets of Rishan Fernando (14) and skipper Suresh Koswaththage (13) in quick succession, while Jaco Oosthuizen disposed of Nuwan Amarakoon (0) and Jonath David (3) on his way to figures of 2-25 from ten overs.

A devastating spell from James Bradbury-Williams tipped the scales further in the home side’s favour, with the gifted seamer helping himself to five wickets for the loss of just 23 runs as the visitors were all out for 104.

The hosts made a difficult start to their run chase when Gareth Langan (0), Tom Kistruck (8) and Edmondson (6) were all out cheaply, but resolute knocks from skipper Phil Leeds (29*) and Rob Lee (36) kept their composure at a crucial time of the game to see them through to a victory.

Jack Williamson provided a stubborn presence at the other end of the crease as Dol reached their required total with minimal fuss after 29 overs, and they travel to Conwy on Saturday looking to extend their start to the campaign.
