CAERNARFON Town triumphed 6-0 against Kilvery Fords to lift the FAW Trophy at Newtown AFC’s Latham Park.

The victory against the Swansea Senior League outfit is the biggest final winning-margin in the competition’s 123-year history, and keeps the Canaries on track for a possible treble this season.

Over 300 Caernarfon fans made the trip down, as the game began with both sides struggling for dominance.

The Cofis slowly gained the upper hand, and they broke the deadlock on the half hour through Darren Thomas.

After the break, the began to play with confidence, and immediately hit a second through a trademark Lee McArdle powerful shot.

The momentum was now very much with the Oval men and good link-up play between Darren Thomas and the impressive Dion Donohue led to a superb Donohue finish to make it three.

Fords buckled under the strain as Town continued to press forward, and their superior possession was rewarded with further goals by McArdle, Darren Thomas and Darren Gowans to secure Town’s second trophy of the season and the first FAW trophy since 1978.

Team: Paul Pritchard, Lee McArdle, Moses Barnett, Clive Williams, Geraint Mitchell, Ywain Gwynedd (c), Dion Donoghue, Kevin Roberts, Leigh Craven, Darren Thomas, Cai Jones. Subs (used): Warren Gibbs, Darren Gowans, Gerallt Jones.

THE CANARIES' hopes of a historic treble were dashed, as they went out to Division Two side Penrhyndeudraeth in the semi final of the Mawddach Challenge Trophy on Tuesday night, losing 4-1 on penalties.
