THE colour coded ratings, showing the performance of schools have been released by the Welsh Government.

A rating of green is the highest rating with yellow second best, amber third and red the lowest.

The system aims to provide support and resources to improve the school system and raise standards and performance in Wales.

A coloured support category is given for each primary, middle and secondary school.

Schools that fall into the green category are judged to be performing strongly, schools in the yellow band will received up to 10 days support, amber will receive up to 15 and those in the red category will receive up to 25 days of support.

Of the schools rated green Gwynedd now has 34 schools, whilst Anglesey, with seven primaries and comprehensives remained the same with seven schools getting top marks. The worst banding of red was handed out to two Anglesey schools and one in Gwynedd.
