Thousands of visitors are gearing up for a weekend of food, music, history and art as the Saltaire Festival finale weekend begins tonight.

The culmination of the ten-day cultural festival is expected to draw record crowds to events including a continental street market, cookery demonstrations from top chefs, street theatre and live music.

Festival director Julia Calver said: “It has felt like the best festival yet. I went to see comedy from Pappy’s who performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and it was absolutely full, and Stuart Maconie has been sold out for a long time.”

Yorkshire ales will be on offer tonight at Saltaire Brewery’s two-day Beer Festival, which will also include American ales and specialist ciders and a performance from the Hammonds Saltaire brass band tomorrow.

Jazz enthusiasts can watch a simultaneous screening of jazz greats and Latin icons during an evening with Hull-based Brazilian- influenced band Bossa Revista at Caroline Street Social Club tonight.

There will also be live music tomorrow and Sunday with an open-air stage at the centre of the village with performances from local bands 12 Bars from Mars, Do Miss America, the Guiseley Brothers and the Broken Hearts Club Band, among others.

Steph Moon, one of Yorkshire’s most well-known chefs, will give cookery demonstrations for the first Aagrah Food and Drink Festival in Roberts Park, which will feature a pop-up outdoor restaurant.

Chefs from the Shipley -based chain of Indian restaurants – including Aagrah’s executive chef and managing director Mohammed Aslam – will be giving masterclasses in the art of South Asian cuisine and there will be demonstrations of vegetarian and Thai cooking throughout the weekend.

Descendents of Saltaire village’s benefactors, Sir Titus Salt and Sir James Roberts will travel from around the world to Saltaire as historians delve into their families’ pasts at A Symposium of the First Lords of Saltaire at Shipley College’s Salt Building on Saturday.

The festival will draw to a close on Sunday with a headline performance from Hank Wangford and the Lost Cowboys at Victoria Hall.
