A MAN has been arrested after a vehicle travelled on the wrong side of the A55 on Anglesey this evening, police have said.
North Wales Police said officers encountered the vehicle while travelling on the correct side of the carriageway and were able to safely bring it to a stop.
The driver was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody as enquiries continue, police said.
The A55 was temporarily closed while officers responded and carried out safety checks before the road was reopened.
Police said the incident began before the vehicle entered the A55. A cyclist was knocked from their bicycle on London Road in Holyhead and sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. The injured person was taken to hospital for treatment.
A number of parked vehicles were also damaged during the incident, police said.
Officers have confirmed there were no collisions resulting from the vehicle travelling in the wrong direction on the A55.
In a statement, North Wales Police acknowledged that the incident may draw attention in light of recent events involving Cleveland Police.
The force said: "We would like to offer our condolences to all those affected by those tragic events."
Police enquiries are continuing.
