SEVERAL schools in Gwynedd have been forced to close today due to extreme heat.

According to Cyngor Gwynedd, the following schools are closed in come capacity today due to the heat:
- Ysgol Glancegin, Bangor - closed this afternoon - The Met Office forecast indicates that the temperature may rise as high as 35°C by mid afternoon. Because there is a lot of glass in the building, the heat rises during the day therefore we will close at 12pm. We will continue to monitor the temperature in the building.
- Ysgol Pendalar, Caernarfon - closed - Following latest weather forecasts and Orange Warning for extreme heat—with temperatures of around 35°C or higher—we have carried out a thorough risk assessment to consider the impact of the weather on the health and wellbeing of our learners and staff, and decided to close for one day
- Ysgol Yr Hendre, Caernarfon - closed - School closed following a risk assessment on the building due to forecasts of exceptional temperatures. It will not be possible to ensure a safe learning environment for pupils and staff
- Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen, Caernarfon - closed - Following a risk assessment and taking the weather forecast into consideration, we have decided to close on Thursday, 25/6. Extremely high temperatures are expected to raise classroom temperatures well above safe levels and as a result a reasonable and safe learning environment cannot be ensured
- Ysgol Hafod Lon, Penrhyndeudraeth - closed - Following latest weather forecasts and Orange Warning for extreme heat—with temperatures of around 35°C or higher—we have carried out a thorough risk assessment to consider the impact of the weather on the health and wellbeing of our learners and staff, and decided to close for one day
- Ysgol Eifion Wyn, Porthmadog - closed - Following a risk assessment, the school has been closed due to exceptionally high temperatures within the building. Despite a range of mitigation measures, a safe environment for pupils and staff cannot be maintained as the extreme heat continues
