A children’s hospice charity has received a welcome boost, thanks to the efforts of marathon runners.
Hope House Tŷ Gobaith raised more than £63,000 through the TCS London Marathon, with 20 runners completing the 26.2-mile course in support of the charity.
An additional three runners took part in the marathon virtually, running routes around their hometowns in sync with the main event in the capital.
Among those taking part were families who use the hospice, alongside staff members.
Sean McCarthy, whose son Theo attends Hope House for care and respite stays, said: "It was the hardest but most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
"People were so friendly and shouting words of encouragement all the way round.
"At the end of the day this was about raising money for Hope House.
"Thank you to everyone who donated, the money raised will make a big difference."
Mr McCarthy was greeted at the finish line by Theo and other family members.
Manon John, an activities support worker at the hospices, completed the route in 4 hours and 34 minutes.
Miss John said: "It was amazing, a bit painful for the last four miles, but the atmosphere and people were unbelievable.
"It was an experience I’ll never forget.
"Thank you Hope House Tŷ Gobaith for the opportunity."
Helen Morgan MP also joined the Hope House team, completing the course in 4 hours and 20 minutes.
On social media, she said: "Running the marathon was overwhelming. I’m so proud to have raised much needed funds."
Jessica Roberts, a children’s nurse from Anglesey, ran the marathon virtually and raised £580 by taking a scenic route to the Menai Bridge.
Miss Roberts said: "I decided to go through all the little villages.
"It was brilliant and I really enjoyed it."
Bekki Fardoe, who led fundraising for the marathon team, said: "We are overwhelmed with the total raised from by runners!"
Miss Fardoe said: "They have done so well with their fundraising and the gruelling training.
"We can’t thank them enough for supporting our hospices and helping ensure we can continue to be here for local children and families."
Applications for the 2027 marathon team are now open, with the charity inviting supporters to apply for one of 20 free charity places in next year’s event.
