YNYS MÔN MP Llinos Medi has denied claims that two hotels on Anglesey are being used to house migrants.

The MP has responded to rumours that the Hotel Cymyran, near Holyhead, and the Valley Hotel, in Holyhead, are being used by the Home Office to house asylum seekers.

Ms Medi said she wanted to be "clear that there is no evidence to support these claims", having already contacted the owners of Hotel Cymyran.

She said the Valley Hotel had also confirmed that it was not housing migrants, calling the rumours "entirely false".

This comes after various social media posts began circulating that the two hotels were one of several "contingency accommodation" hotels being used by the Home Office across the UK.

Ms Medi said: "There have been a number of posts circulating online claiming that Cymyran Hotel and The Valley Hotel are being sold for use by the Home Office to house asylum seekers.

"I want to be clear that there is no evidence to support these claims.
The owners of Cymyran Hotel have confirmed it is being sold, and the new owners have plans to reopen it as a regular hotel with leisure facilities. My office is in contact with the new owners.

"I have written to the Home Office to request formal confirmation that there is no truth to these rumours.

"The Valley Hotel has already confirmed that the claims made about their business are entirely false.

"Sharing unverified information online can do real harm to small, family-run businesses and risk fuelling tensions in our community. It’s clear that rumours are being started by individuals who are not based on Ynys Môn and appear intent on causing division.

"Please be mindful about what you share. Let’s support local businesses and each other."'

The Home Office has been approached for comment.
