IT'S another big weekend for Wrexham Football Club who will be aiming to build on the success enjoyed by Phil Parkinson's side.

The Reds finished runners-up in League Two this season and are celebrating back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club's history.

There could be a league title to celebrate if Wrexham win tomorrow's final EFL Youth Alliance game of the season at Stockport County while Steve Dale’s side take on Cardiff City in the Welsh FA Women’s Cup final at Rodney Parade on Sunday evening.

And to add to the big occasion, the third series of the Welcome To Wrexham documentary airs for the first time today.

A superb 6-0 win at Blackpool put the young Reds, coached by former Everton and Chester City striker Nick Chadwick, on top spot heading into the final week of the North West Group B season.

Following the reformation of the Academy in this summer under an EFL licence, the club’s Under-18 side was entered into the league and Parkinson hailed the progress made this season in the youth ranks.

"I have liaised really closely with Andy Lowe and Nick Chadwick through the season and I have enjoyed watching the development of those youngsters," said the Reds' boss.

"It is the first year that we have had youth players in full-time so they have now got sports science support, they are training every day and Nick has worked them at a really good intensity.

"Any time they have come and trained with us, they have always slotted in the sessions really well.

"It has been great to watch the development of those young players and to be in with a chance of winning the title on the last day of the season is a great effort.

"At the start of the season when the academy was coming together, we had a chat about it and said this year could be tough because you are up against teams who have been developing players for years through the age groups and like with the first team, we have had to play catch up in that.

"Let's hope they do it and we will be rooting for them. If they don't then it has still been a great season."

Wrexham Women are also on the trophy trail with Dale’s side facing Cardiff City in the Welsh Cup final at Newport's Rodney Parade on Sunday.

It's been a superb first season back in the top flight for Wrexham who finished third in the Genero Adran Premier and Parkinson hopes the Reds can beat league champions Cardiff in the cup final.

"I had a good chat with a few of the ladies at the awards ceremony," he added.

"It is their first season semi-pro and they are very pleased with their progress.

"It is a huge game for them. They are in the final and that is great.

"Listening to the girls who spoke on the stage, you could sense that if they don't bring the trophy back to Wrexham it won't be for a lack of effort.

"You can see they have got a great spirit amongst them and they are ready for it. We wish them all the best."
