A Cardigan wellbeing group for those with limited mobility and disabilities has been given funding.

Active-Ability, which is headquartered in the town, has secured substantial financial backing and support from UnLtd, the UK's foundation for social entrepreneurs.

The grant will enable Active-Ability to considerably expand its positive contributions to health and wellbeing for locals.

The group actively promotes accessible and inclusive activities, improving both physical and mental wellbeing through fitness and dance.

Most of the sessions are aimed at the over-50s and are held primarily at Barcud sheltered housing in Bro Teifi, Cardigan.

These classes focus on low-impact, seated exercises using props such as streamers, pompoms, scarves, and drums.

Through this approach, they help lift moods, improve circulation, manage weight, and reduce stiffness and ache while also helping build strength in muscles to prevent falls.

Active-Ability's wider mission is to demolish any barriers preventing individuals from physically engaging activities that encourage good health and mental stability.

They're also set to expand their services to other community groups in the near future.

Morvenna, from Active-Ability, said: "I am thrilled to receive this award from UnLtd which will enable me to reach out to more people in our community who may feel excluded from physical activities in gyms and fitness classes due to costs, travel, or access."

Already, the team at Active-Ability has worked closely with staff at various sheltered housing schemes, carers, and community group leaders and has enjoyed remarkable encouragement from the local physiotherapy team.

The plan is to start referring NHS clients to the sessions in the near future, thanks to feedback they received from regular participants which has been highly positive.

UnLtd supports social entrepreneurs to harness their potential and tackle the biggest societal issues.
