A HOST of former Tranmere footballers will face Wirral Radio FC players for a match in aid of a Wirral-based suicide prevention charity next month.

The match, at Ashville Football Club in Wallasey Village, on Saturday, May 18, will raise funds for New Ferry-based charity The Martin Gallier Project.

Wirral Radio FC's squad will be playing in memory of teammate Kieran Nye, who took his own life in 2019.

Wirral Radio manager, Adam Siddorn said: "The Martin Gallier Project is a Wirral based charity who specialise in suicide prevention, so to raise money for such a fantastic charity in Kieran's name is a very proud moment for all of us at the club.

"We miss our friend very much and it’s wonderful to be able to celebrate his life with some real legends of Tranmere Rovers."

Rovers legendary player Dave Higgins will take charge of the Tranmere Rovers Legends XI whilst TRFC Radio’s Adam Siddorn will take charge of Wirral Radio FC.

Former Tranmere Rovers legend, Higgins said: "We’re looking forward to raising as much money as we can for the charity. It'll be fantastic to be back at the game with some of my former teammates, too.

"It would be great if people come down and gave us their support, even if football isn’t really their thing, a donation could make a real difference to a fantastic local charity."

After the game, Ashville will host a fundraising evening in aid of The Martin Gallier Project.

To raise further funds there will be raffle prizes and a charity auction with Liverpool, Everton and Tranmere Rovers having donated signed balls and shirts.
