THERE’S an away day to open the new Liverpool Cricket Competition season for Northop Hall.
With Ben Slater their new skipper, Hall begin the Division Two campaign at Southport Trinity.
It’s a new-look Hall side for this season and Slater said: “We’re hoping to start positively. We’re hoping to kick the season off with a win.”
Wicket-keeper Slater has taken over as skipper from last season’s captain Carwyn Johnson, who has made the move to Cheshire County League side Neston.
Left-arm spinner Andrew Watkin, all-rounder Ben Roberts and seamer Nathan Roett have all made the move from Halkyn, while joining from Pontblyddyn are Cayo Jones and Joe Parry.
The club has also signed off-spinner Matty Jones, from Oxton and they also have Afghanistan U19 international spinner Nawid Kabir in their ranks.
Slater added: “I would say, based off what we have seen, we are aiming for the top-four.”
Chester Boughton Hall skipper Jack Williams wants to bring the good times back to Filkins Lane this summer.
Hall begin their Cheshire County League season at Toft tomorrow and all-rounder Williams said: “We want to challenge for trophies this season.”
Williams has Hall’s long term-regulars Rick Moore, Warren Goodwin and Alex Money at his disposal while Andy Metcalf is back at the club after a spell with Oulton Park.
Another ex-Park batsman, Pat Roberts, who turned out for Scarborough last summer, has also signed on while junior coach Jamie Griffiths, who was a key man in the North Wales League for Halkyn last year, will also be available for first team selection.
