THE TEAM behind a brewery set to launch in Flintshire are aiming to bring a 'bright and positive future' for the village it will be based in.

Last week, the Leader reported on the latest update for the site located at Bagillt, which was initially built without planning permission.

The brewery - located on a former lead works site opposite the Dee Bank Industrial Estate - has now received retrospective approval.

It was erected by the owners of the Treboom Brewery, which was previously based just outside York.

The craft beer company was taken over in October 2022, leading to plans for it to be relocated to a site in Bagillt.

An investigation by enforcement officers from Flintshire Council later found a building was constructed to house the business on land at Top Works without formal planning consent.

A retrospective application by John Dale to gain retrospective approval was considered and approved by Flintshire Council's planning committee on Wednesday (April 10).

Now, Kerry Davies - who will be running the site alongside applicant Mr Dale - has spoken to the Leader about what the brewery team want to bring to the area.

Mrs Davies says that, as well as bringing around 16 jobs to the area, the firm wants to 'put something back into the Bagillt community' along the way.

She added: "I've worked alongside John (Dale) for nearly 25 years now, in Flint originally, so it's nice to be joining him on this venture as well.

"We're over the moon that planning permission has now been granted and we can't wait to press on.

"Bagillt Action Group with the likes of Cllr Gittins have been so supportive of us and right behind us all the way, as have local businesses who have approached us."

Mrs Davies added: "Our next step now is to come up with a plan of action to get ourselves brewing. We've got a brewing specialist in to help us with the next step.

"We've had a lot of people ask us when we'll be up and running. There's still a lot to do yet but there are exciting times ahead.

"We want to bring job opportunities for local people and put something back in to Bagillt. Being between Flint and Holywell, it can sometimes get a bit lost but it's a place that is full of promise.

"We're looking to help bring a bright and positive future to it."
