TWO photographers documenting Rhyl's redevelopment have shared their thoughts on the transformation of the Woolworths building.

Duncan Nield-siddall, who has been taking photos of renovations and demolished buildings for 10 years, and Adrian Evans, who often captures scenes of the seafront and its surroundings whilst out on walks, have both been following the work on the building that used to house Woolworths.

In 2023, the owner of the former Woolworths building was issued with a formal notice from Denbighshire County Council, requiring them to improve the poor condition of the building.

The building is already looking much more appealing to shoppers and visitors.

Duncan said: "I personally think it looks so much better now. it's been looking very tired for a number of years.

"It's amazing what a lick of paint does to enhance a building.

"I love taking photos before and after. It gives me pleasure to see the finished development, whatever it is."

Adrian said: "I recall the Woolworths in Rhyl from when it was a genuine store. Growing up, I frequented many Woolworths and cherished them as a child.

"It's wonderful to witness the revitalisation of the local Woolworths in Rhyl, particularly given its excellent location. Many armchair critics disparage Rhyl, likely without ever setting foot here, preferring to rely on media stories and hearsay.

"Hopefully, the ongoing renovation will continue for the rest of the town and will attract both new and established businesses."

A spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council said: “We are pleased that the former Woolworths building has undergone refurbishment. The improvement works have been carried out in response to a formal notice, and council officers are now inspecting the works to ensure compliance. The building already looks much more inviting to shoppers and visitors, with benefits for the local economy.

"The council is committed to improving Rhyl town centre and we are proactively assisting the owners of other properties to refurbish their buildings, taking enforcement action where needed and supporting property owners to bring empty shops back into use."
