A POD of dolphins that was left stranded on an Anglesey beach was rescued by volunteers yesterday (January 31).

Cemaes Bay Coastguard were called out to assist volunteers from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, who had spent "the whole day" helping six common dolphins that had got stuck on the beach.

The dolphins were eventually able to swim back out to sea with the evening high tide.

A Cemaes Bay Coastguard spokesperson said: "Something a bit different today - we assisted volunteers from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue Marine Medics who had spent the whole day saving six common dolphins that had got stuck on the beach.

"The amazing volunteers spent the whole day monitoring and assisting them until they managed to swim back out to sea with the evening high tide.

"If you do come across anything like this please don't approach but call."
