LIFESAVERS launched following a report of a person in the water within Holyhead harbour.

RNLI Holyhead Lifeboat Station were alerted to the incident at 12.21am on Tuesday morning (January 23). HM Coastguard requested the immediate launch of the D-class inshore lifeboat Mary and Archie Hooper to an area near the Maritime Museum.

Despite the late hour, crew were on site to launch very quickly, and headed immediately to the scene.

A statement by RNLI Holyhead Lifeboat Station said: "The sea conditions were difficult, with a Westerly breeze, but thankfully the two people were found to now be in shallower water heading towards the shore. Friends and family members were also on the shoreline.

"Approaching the two casualties, a lifeboat crewman was placed ashore to assist with their recovery, and to help check their welfare. As the location was so close to the lifeboat station, shore crew also attended to support in the RNLI Land Rover, and the local volunteer cliff rescue team also arrived at the scene, along with North Wales Police and North Wales Ambulance.

"Our crew stood by at the request of HM Coastguard until the incident was closed, when the lifeboat and all crew returned to the station to prepare for any further calls.

"The two casualties were left in the care of North Wales Police and North Wales Ambulance Service."
