OFFICERS uncovered cannabis plants as they carried out a warrant in Basildon on Friday.

Essex Police's Operational Support Group carried out a warrant in the Basildon district where they recovered cannabis plants and arrested two people on suspicion of cannabis cultivation.

It was among six arrests made as the group tackles "high harm crimes" such as sex, domestic and drugs offences.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Elsewhere, carrying out proactive arrest attempts they arrested one person on suspicion of rape and two in connection with domestic offences.

"They also made a drink driving arrest having stopped a vehicle on the A127 in Basildon."

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Hughes said: “The work the OSG does is really important to keep the public safe and help other teams progress investigations.

“Through their positive, proactive work, suspects have been brought into custody.

“The team will be out again today, keeping you safe again.”
