THE OWNER of a hotel and restaurant in Anglesey said it “feels great” to secure its Rosette award for the 22nd consecutive year.

Bishopsgate House Hotel, at 54 Castle Street, Beaumaris kept the AA Rosette award for another year, a reward for the business’ continued culinary excellence.

Owner Hazel Johnson-Ollier bought the hotel in 1999, and with late husband Dennis turned it into one of the most popular destinations on the island.

“In a time of such uncertainty it feels great to maintain a standard we set out to achieve when we bought the hotel in 1999,"Hazel told the Chronicle.

“It is also pretty amazing to have had the same head chef, Ian Sankey, for 20 years.”

Ian is not the only member of staff behind the hotel’s longevity and success, with sous chef and duty manager Darren Jones first starting at the hotel in 2004.

24 years later, Melanie is the hotel manageress at Bishopsgate, with the business now “working around our dedicated staff”, Hazel said.

Bishopsgate House Hotel serves a range of classic British dishes, with some inspired by the sea and several sourcing local Welsh produce.
