A PUB in Bangor has welcomed back customers with a new name and a new fish and chip shop at its premises.

“Tafarn Y Garth”, formerly “The Tap and Spile”, on Garth Road celebrated its official re-opening at 5pm yesterday (November 2), having closed on August 27 for a “makeover”.

The pub has been back open since late October.

Elin Walker Jones, mayor of Bangor, attended yesterday’s official re-opening to celebrate its return.

From now on, the chippy will be open from 12-9pm, and the pub from 12pm-12am.

It invited its customers to comment on its Facebook page suggestions for a new name, with the person responsible for the winning entry earning a weekly free portion of fish and chips for a year.

More than 100 suggestions for a new name had been submitted since the pub’s initial post on Sunday, August 20.

Other comments included: “The Battered Barrel”, “The Happy Sole” and “Garth Fish Bar”.
