A SCHOOLGIRL who was killed when a bus overturned on the M53 in Wirral has been named as 15-year-old Jessica Baker. 

The teenager, who was travelling with other students to West Kirby Grammar School this morning, died when the coach they were passengers on crashed on the northbound M53 near to junction 5. 

The bus driver, who has not yet been named, also died in the incident  which happened shortly after 8am this morning (Friday, September 29). 

Jessica's family issued a photograph of her as Merseyside Police said they requested privacy.

A police statement said: “Jessica Baker sadly died as a result of the collision on the M53 northbound carriageway earlier today.

“Jessica’s family have requested that their privacy is respected at this time and any updates from them will be issued via Merseyside Police news office as appropriate.”

Merseyside Police said a total of 58 people were involved in the incident including the two fatalities.

Two children were taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with serious injuries and another two casualties were treated at Wirral’s Arrowe Park Hospital.

One of those injured is a 14-year-old boy who has suffered life-changing injuries, said police.

Others involved in the incident were treated at an emergency training centre in Wallasey, with 13 treated for minor injuries before they were released.
