Following Newtown AFCs impressive pre-season victory over my local team, Hyde United, I have been able to travel in recent weeks to various parts of Wales to watch Newtown’s games.
During this time they have recorded four consecutive victories, moved steadily up the league table and are now in a position to challenge the league leaders.
The team has organisation, creativity, skill and speed, and is playing as well as any semi-professional team I have ever seen.
What I can’t understand, though, is why they aren’t better supported.

The town has a population in excess of 12,000, the area has a strong tradition of sport and the match day admission prices at Latham Park could not be more reasonable - £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
As a comparison, on Saturday, away to Colwyn Bay who are almost bottom of the league, the home team was backed by a vociferous and largely partisan crowd of 777.
Despite this, Newtown were 3-0 up after only 20 minutes and playing such quick-fire attacking football that they seemed able to score at will.
Following some uncharacteristically sloppy and casual second half defending, however, Newtown eventually came out as 4-2 winners - but they deserve this kind of home support.
