A WOMAN who stole money from a resident of the Anglesey care home where she worked has been removed from the social care register.

Meinir Owen was told that “only a removal order will be adequate” as a sanction for her behaviour at a Social Care Wales fitness to practise hearing on September 12.

The hearing was told that Ms Owen registered with Social Care Wales as an adult care home worker on March 10, 2021.

At that time, she was working as a carer at a home in Rhosneigr.

But after a resident at the home raised concerns to staff that money had been going missing, a covert camera was installed in their room.

Footage from this camera, it was heard, later showed Ms Owen taking £10 from the resident’s purse.

She was instantly dismissed from her post once this matter came to light.

The footage was provided to North Wales Police and an investigation commenced, before she later admitted taking the money from the resident’s purse.

In September 2022, she accepted a resolution, whereby she would return the £10 and write a letter of apology to the resident.

Ms Owen did not attend the hearing on September 12, which was held remotely via Zoom.

The fitness to practise panel found that she had demonstrated a “lack of insight, regret and remorse”, and had committed a “significant breach of trust”.

Her registration will be suspended prior to the removal order taking effect on October 14.
