AN MP is supporting a call for supermarkets to highlight the very best of produce by incorporating a ‘Buy British’ section online.

Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has signed an open letter to chief executives asking them to create a tab to collate produce from across the UK so customers have the choice to buy British during their online shop.

She is one of more than 100 MPs to sign the letter organised by her colleague Luke Evans.

The letter also champions the work of Britain’s farmers in ensuring food security, supporting strong local economies, and preserving and protecting the environment.

It says that an online Buy British tab would empower the public to be able to make easier choices over what food they would like to purchase.

Ms Crosbie said: “Our agriculture sector is a huge part of the island’s culture and economy as seen last week by the popularity of the Anglesey Show, so anything that supports our farmers, has my support.

“Many supermarkets already label British produce instore; this ask is just about making sure online sales have the same information and choice for people to buy British and support our farmers.
