A PUB in Bangor is to close before re-opening with a new fish and chip shop.

The Tap and Spile, on Garth Road, will shut on Sunday (August 27) ahead of its “makeover”.

It has invited its customers to comment on its Facebook page suggestions for its new name, with the winner to claim a free portion of fish and chips every week for a year.

A post on its Facebook page read: “The Tap and Spile is having a makeover and will be re-opening as a pub and fish and chip shop in one.

“If you win, you will be given 52 vouchers for fish and chips to use at your pleasure for a year after we re-open.

“Entries will close at midnight on the August 27 - when we close the doors to the Tap and Spile for the final time.”

More than 100 comments have already been left since the pub’s post on Sunday, August 20.

Suggestions for a new name have so far included: “The Battered Barrel”, “The Happy Sole” and “Garth Fish Bar”.
