A MAN has stopped off at locations along the coast of Gwynedd and Anglesey as he completes an 870-mile walk for charity.

Paul Pearson, from Barry Island in South Wales, is hiking along the Welsh Coastal Path from Chester to Chepstow, Monmouthshire to raise money for Ty Hafan.

Ty Hafan provides holistic palliative care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families throughout Wales.

Paul, who is autistic and suffers with mental health, said he has been “blown away by the generosity of strangers” on his trip, which has taken him to Bangor and Menai Bridge.

“It's been a wild ride, sleeping in fields with cattle, in forests and even on a sofa,” he told the Chronicle.

“I've been blown away by the generosity of strangers - I've had people buy me dinner, cook me lunch, I had a bloke try and get me a hotel for the night.”

Supported by a “ragtag” group of friends for certain parts of the trek, he set off on August 1 and hopes to be done by the end of September.

Paul had intended to trek for charity in Cambodia back in 2019, but this was postponed due to Covid-19.

His trip is inspired by his mother’s friends that work for Ty Hafan, and family friends whose children have had to use the hospice.

So far, Paul has raised £506 having set a target of £2,000.
