THE family of a man whose body was found on an Anglesey beach after being reported to have been swept into the sea have celebrated his life and urged donations in his memory.

Gareth Bowen, 46, from the Broughton area, was reported to have entered the water from rocks in Trearddur Bay on July 29, shortly after 7pm.

On Wednesday (August 2), his body was found on a beach in Rhoscolyn, which was confirmed by police on Friday to have been identified as Mr Bowen.

Following his death, Mr Bowen’s brother, Ross, set up a fundraiser page on the website JustGiving, with donations being made to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Paying tribute to his late brother, he also remembered a “dear son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, godfather and, most importantly, friend”.

A post on the JustGiving page read: “Our dear son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, godfather and, most importantly, friend, was taken from us too early.

“Myself and the family would like to thank everyone for all of the kindness shown over the past week.

“Between us we have tried to come back to as many people as we can but all we can say is thank you from the bottom of our hearts it really hasn’t gone unnoticed.”

The RNLI was among the numerous organisations who searched for Mr Bowen following his disappearance on July 29.

So far, more than £5,000 has been raised.

The post added: “These brave people put their lives at risk 24/7. They risk not coming home to their families to save to save ours.

“We want to give back to the RNLI in anyway we possibly can, as they have spent long hours not only searching for my brother at the weekend, but thousands of other families.

“We will continue this page for a while and until after his funeral, whenever that may be.

“Even if it’s as little as £1, we would rather it go to hopefully finding someone else’s loved one, one day.

“The whole family want to thank you for your continued support at this difficult time.”

Last week, Mr Bowen’s family have expressed their thanks to the agencies involved in the searches.

His mother, Lorraine, said: “Our family are extremely grateful for the searches and effort undertaken by all of the agencies involved in the searches to find Gareth since Saturday evening.”

North Wales Police said: "We can confirm the body of a man found on a beach in Rhoscolyn on Wednesday, August 2, has been identified as Gareth Bowen.

"We continue to work closely with the coroner, and his family have been informed."

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Gibson said: "Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this incredibly difficult time."
