A SPECIAL late-night train and bus service running from Cardiff to North Wales will be running following Wales’ Euro 2024 qualifier against Armenia on Friday (June 16).

To help North Wales-based fans get home after the match, which kicks off at 7.45pm at Cardiff City Stadium, Transport for Wales (TfW) will provide a post-match train to Chester, followed by a bus from Chester to Holyhead.

The train service leaves Ninian Park railway station, which is within five minutes’ walk of the ground, at 9.54pm, and arrives at Chester at 1.12am on June 17.

Enroute to Chester, it also stops at Wrexham General station at 12.57am.

Following the train’s arrival at Chester, TfW’s bus service will then leave Chester at 1.25am, arriving at Holyhead at 3.52am.

On its way to Holyhead, the bus will stop at Prestatyn (2.15am), Rhyl (2.27am), Llandudno Junction (2.52am), and Bangor (3.17am).

Tickets for the post-match train and bus services can be bought via TfW’s website - you can book up to four spaces on the bus, with existing rail tickets not valid for coach travel.

Concerns had been raised about the lack of transport back to North Wales after Friday evening’s match.

Fans had also highlighted the lack of affordable hotel rooms available in the Welsh capital on June 16.

On the same night, Blondie is performing at Cardiff Castle, as is comedian Peter Kay at Cardiff International Arena.

Previously, a TfW spokesperson said: “In the past, we provided additional coaches but have had to review this due to lack of demand.  It was a pilot scheme and is currently being evaluated.

“We’re working collaboratively with the Football Association of Wales to plan for the future and how we can work together to provide additional transport.”

Friday’s match is the third game of Wales’ qualifying campaign for Euro 2024, which will be held in Germany next summer.

They took four points from their first two qualifiers, against Croatia and Latvia in March, and face an away trip to Turkey on June 19 after Friday’s game.
