PLANS to make Yr Wyddfa a 'plastic free' mountain are moving forward.

The National Park Authority will host an event on April 24 at the Royal Victoria Hotel in Llanberis to discuss with businesses the possibility of Yr Wyddfa becoming the first plastic free mountain in the world.

The 'Plastic Free Yr Wyddfa' project is an initiative launched by the National Park Authority in response to the growing concern over plastic waste and its impact on the environment.

The project aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution on the natural beauty in the Yr Wyddfa region and the need for sustainable practices.

A spokesperson for Eryri National Park said: "The aim of the event is for the authority to begin on the ‘Plastic Free Path’ with businesses within the Yr Wyddfa zone and to agree an accessible framework for a Plastic Free Awards Scheme.

"There will be a focus on how we can engage with visitors on litter, methods for reducing unnecessary single use plastics from the waste stream and finding ways to reuse and recycle."

Rob and Fiona Nicholson from Plas Coch, Llanberis, said: “At our guest house on the foothills of Yr Wyddfa, we believe in the beauty and preservation of the natural world around us. That's why we're committed to reducing our use of single-use plastics. By doing so, we can protect the stunning environment that our guests come to experience and help ensure its beauty lasts for future visitors to the area.”

The event will feature guest speakers from across North Wales as well as trade stands exhibiting businesses who are already offering possible solutions to the Plastic Free Yr Wyddfa project.

The event will also be a chance to discuss ideas and share opinions.
