MORE sixth form pupils at Ysgol Friars, Bangor have access to online learning and technology thanks to a donation of laptops by former pupils.

The computers, donated by Mark Watkin Jones and Susan Ashworth, who both attended the school, will help to bridge the digital divide and support equal opportunities for A-level students at the Bangor school.

This initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring that all students have access to the necessary resources to succeed in their studies.

Expressing his gratitude, headteacher Neil Foden said: “We are delighted to receive this generous donation from Mark and Susan.

“We are grateful for their continued support, which has enabled several initiatives to be implemented here at Ysgol Friars.

“As former pupils, they both know the school and community well and understand the effects that COVID-19 and rising prices have had on young people and their families.

“It is fantastic that, having enjoyed successful business careers, both are now committed to giving back to the school and supporting our pupils.”

Susan Ashworth added: “We’re pleased that we can support pupils at Ysgol Friars in this way.

“We appreciate that it has been a particularly difficult period for young people having been through the disruption caused by the pandemic and now the cost-of-living crisis.

“Having adequate access to IT equipment is crucial for students to thrive.

“We are confident that the new computers will go some of the way to helping the students achieve their full potential.”

This donation is part of Mark and Susan’s ongoing support of Ysgol Friars which includes a range of initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and educational experience of the school's students.
