TRIBUTES have been pouring in following the death of a beloved cat described as a "Holyhead legend".

China became a familar face at Lidl. He was best known to shoppers as ‘the Lidl Cat’.

China belonged to owner Terry Wray.

The much loved feline died after being hit by a car. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he sadly had to be put down.

Terry, who had had China for about 10 years, said: "He was a street cat that moved in with me and my other cat, Frank. He was a very loving cat and we took to each other quite quickly.

"A local woman, last year, began feeding him in Cecil Street, and he started to follow her to Lidl for treats. He eventually figured out he could get many treats from Lidl, so he would hang out there every day. He eventually moved to the car park area and he used to come back weekly.

"Before he died, he was coming home every other day or so.

"He loved his belly being rubbed and he'd dance on my belly often."

Sarah Canvin, who is good friends with Terry, said: "Every shopper from near or far knew China and loved seeing him when they went shopping there and at night he would be at home with his loving owner.

"After being fed in the morning he would toddle off and spend his day, all day, everyday, at Lidl car park.

"He loved people and the attention. He was even recently graffitied in the town centre by someone because he is that loved.

"This remarkable cat touched so many lives."

Floral tributes are being laid outside the supermarket and pictures of China have been put up on display.
