THE Menai Suspension Bridge will partly close to motorists so 'tests' can be carried out.

In October last year the bridge was closed to all traffic after a structural concern was identified by engineers.

It reopened to vehicles under 7.5 tonnes earlier this month after temporary works were completed, but further work must be completed before the bridge can reopened to all traffic.

In this final phase of the programme, all the hangers on the bridge will be replaced.

A "preferred method" of working, to minimise disruption, has been identified by the Welsh Government, but the methodology must be tested.

A temporarily lane closure on the bridge, to allow engineers to work safely and test the proposed hanger replacement system, wil be in force from March 6.

Traffic lights will operate part time at each end of the bridge - allowing vehicles to cross in either direction when permitted.

Lee Waters MS, Wales' deputy minister for Climate Change, said: "This could take longer if there is severe weather or another unforeseeable setback.
