AN ANGLESEY dentist surgery will stop providing NHS treatments in April.

Services at Cybi Dental Practice, Holyhead, will cease on April 18 this year.

Gill Harris, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) interim chief executive, said: "I can confirm NHS services at the Cybi Dental Practice in Holyhead will cease on April 18 this year.

“I want to apologise to patients for the anxiety this news will cause but the practice will be writing to them to explain the situation and provide information about alternative dental services.

“Cybi is currently working to close all open courses of NHS treatment by April 18. Any patients who have open courses of treatment at the time of closure will be allocated to another practice for their completion.

“They will still have to find an alternative practice to continue receiving NHS services."

Sam Rowlands, MS for North Wales, said: "I am really disappointed to hear that yet another dental practice on Anglesey will no longer be offering NHS services. This follows news that a surgery in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll is pulling out of providing this service at the end of March and late last year the island lost a surgery in Llangefni, although this was closed down due to standards and patient safety issues.

“That is three dental practices within the last six months. It is really not acceptable or good enough and Welsh Government need to get involved. I feel sorry for patients on the island who are trying to access NHS services

“I am aware that a new dental practice has opened its doors in Bangor,  which is part of BCUHB’s ambitious plans to help tackle the shortage of dentists and eventually the building will also provide a dental academy which of course is a step in the right direction."

In January, the contractor at Marquess Dental Practice in Holyhead Road, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, said they would no longer provide NHS dental services after March 31.

Ms Harris added: “We are looking to fund additional dental services across North Wales and Anglesey is included in the list of priority areas.

“From April 18 any NHS patients who were being treated by Cybi Dental Practice, and haven’t yet found a new provider, should call the national NHS 111 Wales helpline if they require urgent dental treatment.”
