A FOOTBALL club in Wrexham is to pay tribute to Ryan Reynolds after his donation helped buy the team's new kit.

A GoFundMe page was set up to raise money for FC United of Wrexham's U12s new football kit.

The initial target was £480, which Ryan covered with his first donation of £600, before going back for a second donation of £1,000.

The total donation from the Deadpool star of £1,600, will not only buy the new kit but will also secure the future of the football club amid the cost of living crisis.

As a thank you to Ryan and to make sure his generous donation isn't forgotten, the club's chairman Andrew Ruscoe and the kit manufacturer, have come up with an idea.

They plan on putting the Deadpool logo on either sleeve of the new kit as a mark of appreciation to Ryan.

Andrew said: "We agreed that we had to do something for Ryan as it's not every day you have a Hollywood A-lister giving you donations.

"The donation is a lifeline for us as a club, so we started to think of ideas and felt why not stick the Deadpool logo on it.

"The lads are ecstatic and we want to show our gratitude to Ryan, we just want to thank him as gestures like this show that he genuinely does care for the people of Wrexham."

As well as being able to purchase the new kits, the money adds a sense of security to the club during what Andrew describes as "tough times".

He added: "Fees keep going up and it's getting harder with the cost of living.

"We don't want financial barriers to impact participation, so this money just stops that altogether.

"We've faced a lot of issues since we set this club up, but to know we've been going for three years is amazing.

"The donation protects the future of the club and can help us develop, it's just amazing.

"He (Ryan) can be president of the club if he wants to be, I have no issues with giving him that role!"
